Background "Bas Yeh Jawani" is a Punjabi folk song in its origin. It was sung in Punjabi by "Lucky Singh", a popular Punjabi singer, which was first recorded by him in the 60's. The Hindi version of the song is more famous among the Punjabi population than the Punjabi version. The popular Hindi movie song, "Kaun Karega Kaun Hi Kaun", from the hit Marathi movie Harishchandra (1970) by legendary music director and singer R. D. Burman, popularly known as "RDB", was written and composed by Madhukar Shinde and lyrics were provided by Indeevar. A successful Punjabi version of the same song sung by "Nirmala", the then-popular singer, was released as a single, "Kaun Karega Kaun Hi Kaun", in 1971. The song became a runaway hit. This was a major turning point in the career of Nirmala, who went on to become one of the most popular singers in India. This song, sung as a duet by "Lucky Singh" and "Nirmala", who performed the song in Marathi, became an instant hit with the Punjabi audience. Thus, this song, composed by "RDB" in 1970, is considered as one of his most popular compositions. The song was also used for various other Marathi movies like Anant Madhav Desai (1980), Bapu Ki Ek Nanalu (1982) and Jogi (1986). "Bas Yeh Jawani" became extremely popular in India, and it is still popular even today, as the song became a staple of Pakistani cinema. "Bas Yeh Jawani" has also been used in numerous Bollywood movies since it became popular, with song versions being released in a Hindi (English) language (Bengali and Maithili) version.
